Educational Field Trips And School Groups

school groups and field trips

Please note, due to liability reasons, the Charleston Harbor Marina, adjacent to the USS Yorktown, has suspended school group pickups. All school groups must come to Ripley Light Marina for boarding.

Once we’ve landed on the island, its time for both teachers and students to leave the classroom behind and take in the beauty, solitude and nature that the island has to offer. For all of our field trips, we’re proud to be offering salt marsh and barrier island ecology based on SC curriculum standards.  Students and teachers alike will be strolling down the shore in search of beach treasure while your guide, a trained marine biologist shares information on everything you see. Our marine biologist guides are also with you on the beach to answer any questions you might have along the way.

But that’s not all! It’s very common to see dolphins, birds, and other wildlife en route to the island. In addition to that, we’ll be touching on some mandatory history, most notably Ft. Sumter and the Civil War, Ft. Moultrie and the plight of the Massachusetts 54th Volunteers. Standards for your applicable student group or field trip can be found at the links below. Don’t see what you need? We have an expert student educator on staff. She’ll be more than happy to answer any of your questions. Call or email to book your trip now!

In most cases, school groups must be held with a deposit and payment completed before the day of sailing.

Teachers and students may bring food and drinks for their field trips. There is a minimum of 25 students or 450.00 applied to this field trip. Smaller groups may tag along on our daily Morris Island trips at a significantly reduced rate. Please be on time! Groups later than 15 minutes may forfeit time on their field trip if another charter is already scheduled for the same day! Weather cancellations can be rescheduled if possible, otherwise a 100% refund will be given by business check.
